HBO picks up 'Westworld' series starring Anthony Hopkins
Is it too early to say we're excited about the latest news from Camp HBO? Probably. But we are.
The network announced Monday it has ordered to series a show based on the 1973 sci-fi drama by Michael Crichton, Westworld, which centers on a mind-bending amusement park where humans and life-like robots interact as part of the one-of-a-kind experience.
The series, executive produced by Interstellar writer Jonathan Nolan and JJ Abrams, is set to star Anthony Hopkins in his first regular TV role, as well as Ed Harris, James Marsden, Thandie Newton and Evan Rachel Wood.
HBO describes the show as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin."
Nolan, brother of Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan and creator of CBS's Person of Interest, co-wrote the pilot script with writer and wife Lisa Joy.
HBO teased the pickup with a series of Tweets, including the Sweetwater image above, before confirming the news with Tweets and Vines.
Westworld is set to debut in 2015.
